Film Show
In Patagonia
The new version of the Patagonia Film Show, which will be held in Puerto Natales from February 5 to 9, will kick off in Milodón Cave for the fourth time.
Machuca, the film by Chilean director Andrés Wood, will be shown on the inaugural night exclusively in the Cave, located close to the Torres del Paine Park, with an expected attendance of more than 3 thousand people. The remaining films will be shown in the Club de Leones auditorium in Puerto Natales.
The Show's director, actor Luis Alarcón, says that the purpose of the event is for “the inhabitants of Puerto Natales to be able to enjoy current, quality cinema at least once in the year”.
In addition to the film by Andrés Word, the show this year will include Promedio Rojo (Average Grades In Red) (98 minutes, 2004) by Chilean director Nicolás López; Argentinean films Luna de Avellaneda (Avellaneda Moon) (142 minutes, 2004) by Juan José Campanella and La puta y la ballena (The Whore and the Whale) (120 minutes, 2004) by Luis Puenzo; and the showing of the film by John Skirving, Iván el Pirata (Ivan the Pirate) (1949), shot in Punta Arenas.
Alarcón added that the number of people attending has increased every year. “The first year we totaled 200 people in all. The second year it was 300, and in the third we were averaging 300 people every day; we even held an all-nighter. Attendance at the Milodón Cave has also increased year after year”, he stated.
For this fourth version, the National Committee for Culture and the Arts donated as part of its support for the project a professional 6 by 12 meter screen, which will be given by José Weinstein, the Minister for Culture.
A special version (in DVD format) of the film “Mi mejor enemigo” (My best Enemy) by Alex Brown, which has still not been premiered, will also be shown in this event. A series of shorts will also be shown in parallel fashion.
