Discover Patagonia
Our Best

Tourist operators from the countries of the Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit who participated in Discover Patagonia— Chile , left with an excellent impression, after testing the quality of the zone's services and the infrastructure specially installed for the meetings.

The event took place last October 17 th and 18 th in the area of Puerto Natales where at the Bernardo O'Higgins School 50 stands were set up so that the operators who sell Patagonia could solidify their interviews with each one of the visitors: 44 in total.

According to a report by the National Chamber of Tourism, the representative of the operator Retour Mexico, Diana Garcia, expressed, “it was more that I hoped for. It's a splendid place with some beautiful views that make you want to stay longer and without doubt, return.” A return that has no impediments, since the area aerodrome showed its capacity for responding to even the most demanding requirements.

After the meeting, there was a post tour, with visits to different tourist destinations but especially to the most spectacular of them all: Torres del Paine.

Agreements on the Mare Australis

Days before Discovery, the third meeting of Ministries Responsible for Tourism of the Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit took place. The meeting brought together delegates from 19 of the 21 economies that make up the summit and it took place on board the cruise ship, Mare Australis, during an outing among fjords and glaciers in the Magallanes Region.

Among the points agreed upon at the summit was included giving greater mobility to tourists among the member countries of APEC, in addition to improving the management of sustainability in tourism projects. Also, a common accounting model will be developed for tourism, since as it is a very dispersed activity, it is difficult to quantify its growth rate and compare this data with other countries.

On this occasion, the aerodrome of Torres del Paine was the star, in that it was the meeting point between locations. At it landed three planes belonging to the Armed Forces and the Chilean Army who transported the tourism ministers who visited the National Park Torres del Paine for the day. The National Director of Sernatur, Oscar Santelices, also accompanied them; as well as the Regional Intendant, Jaime Jelincic and his advisors. 50 people in total were received by the mayor (s) of the municipality, Aliro Pérez Díaz.
