The district of Torres del Paine is located in the Province of Ultima Esperanza , north-east the city of Puerto Natales.

It has a 6,630 Km2 surface which lodges Torres del Paine National Park. It has a population of around 800 people.

Cerro Castillo Aerodrome

Villa Cerro Castillo is the capital of the district of Torres del Paine. It has a police station, a public school, a frontier checkpoint, an emergency room, an aerodrome, a tourist service center, and a museum.

Its geographic location is favorably strategic, since it is the route to and from the interior of Argentina , and represents concentration of all basic services within the district scope. It also has two coffee shops, a hotel and an Inn . It has two rooms for multiple uses, a new gym, a public library, and a “Telecenter” offering Internet services to the community and general public.


Museum and Information Center

Relevant Activities in the district:

Shearing: in December. Approximately 1,500 “corriedale” animals are sheared per day.

Chilean Style Party :during two days of January, consisting of breaking of colts and young bulls, horse races, sheep dog training contests, and a popular dancing party as a closing ceremony.

Chilean Rodeo: During two days of February

Bovine Cattle Marking : January or February) and ovine tagging (November).

Tourist Attractions of the District:

Cerro Castillo Colonizer Cemetery: This is where mortal remains of the first colonizers, who arrived at the beginning of the XXth century, were buried. It has been declared National Monument, and is located three km away from Villa Cerro Castillo, Estancia el Solitario.

Visit to the Cave: Image of Saint Teresita de los Andes, Estancia Anahi del Valle.

Visit to Laguna Escondida: A small and beautiful lagoon hidden among the trees. Of difficult access, you can only get there by horse, Estancia Anahi del Valle.

Condor Mirador: A geologic fault that is used by condors as a nest, which may be seen from a plain of the escarpment, at approximately 20 meters, Estancia Anahi del Valle.

Villa Cerro Castillo Shearing Shed: Building constructed in 1906 and which has been used, to the date, for the same shearing purposes as in the times of the old “Section Cerro Castillo”.

Please note that to visit the above mentioned places, you need to contact the cattle breeders, in whose properties tourist attractions are located.
