The district of Puerto Natales is the capital of Province of Última Esperanza. Its strategic location allows tourists to consider Puerto Natales as their operations center, from which they can explore the majestic Patagonian landscapes.

The Spanish Captain Juan Ladrillero discovered the zone late 1557. But only four hundred years later, arrival of the German Hermann Eberhard, in 1892, gave rise to colonization of the territory.

Municipality of Puerto Natales is in front of the main square of the city, in an English style house built at the beginning of the XXth century.

The Municipality has a Tourist Information Office and a Historical Museum located few blocks from the square.

Information Center and Museum

The museum has historical pieces and documents that go back to 12,000 years ago, with the arrival of pedestrian bands of hunters-collectors. The show continues with the culture of Aónikenk and Kaweshkar aborigine peoples, and ends in 1930 with evidences of colonization and their precursors.
